Scholarship Program

The Southgate Optimist Club was formed in 1946 as a friend of youth in the City of Southgate. Since its inception, the Southgate Optimist Club has provided many educational and recreational programs for the youth of our community. Again this year, the Optimist club, in conjunction with the City of Southgate, is offering its annual Southgate Optimist Club Scholarship. This program involves the awarding of two $500 scholarships, one each to a graduating senior boy and girl student who plan to further their education at an accredited university or college.

It is important to note that these awards are merit-based scholarships only. The eligible applicants must be graduating seniors who live in the city of Southgate or are children of Southgate Optimist Club members. Awarding of the scholarships will be based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, community involvment, and a brief narrative.
